Auricular Therapy: Healing Through Ears

Auricular therapy chart

Auricular therapy is stimulation of the external ear without needles, used as a body system evaluation and a treatment of the body’s microsystem.

It is sometimes called “ear seeds therapy” because small seeds can be used to apply pressure, instead of needles.

Auriculotherapy is good for acute pain problems and can relieve pain almost immediately or within 24 to 48 hours.

One session of therapy lasts about 30 minutes and has no side effects.

The treatment is a well-recognized medical treatment in China and many other countries. One theory explaining how it works is that the stimulation of certain nerves on the ear may send signals to the brain that then create a “response” to the part of the body to be treated.

Some common areas auriculotherapy can help with include:

  • Pain management: headaches, sports injuries, etc.
  • Weight loss
  • Allergies
  • Asthma
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Sleeping problems
  • High blood pressure
  • Chronic degenerative conditions like osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis
  • Chronic central nervous system conditions like multiple sclerosis
  • Chronic painful conditions like spinal stenosis
  • Gastrointestinal, genital urinary and cardiovascular system dysfunctions
  • Conquering addictive behaviors
  • Stop smoking
  • Stop drinking

Auricular therapy should not replace acute orthodox medical care in life-threatening situations.

How frequently should I be treated?
Treatment is usually once a week for most chronic conditions

Auricular therapy for weight loss
Auricular therapy has helped many people lose weight by:

  • Reducing food cravings
  • Controlling appetite
  • Strengthening will power

It helps people stick to diets more easily than they normally would.

Auricular therapy for fertility enhancement
A study published in the journal Gynecological Endocrinology concluded that auricular acupucture seems to offer a valuable alternative therapy for female infertility caused by hormone disorders.

Auricular therapy for insomnia and sleep disorders
A review published by the Journal of Advanced Nursing found that “acupuncture may be an effective intervention for the relief of insomnia,” based on research papers published between 1975 and 2002 that used auricular therapy to treat insomnia.

Patient Testimony

“The auricular therapy especially surprised me. Who knew seeds in the ear could have such fast relief of headaches, pain and low energy levels? I liked the fact that I continued the therapy at home myself for days by pressing the seeds.”

— Jacqueline Brignoli

“I came to Jennifer’s office after seeing five different doctors, of varying specialties, for my anxiety and panic disorders. After doing a health evaluation, Jennifer used auricular therapy to ease my anxiety. After leaving the ear seeds on for 7 days and pressing down on them at varying times, I saw a noticeable difference in my anxiety levels. After two weeks of acupuncture and auricular therapy, as well as eating a more balanced diet, I noticed that I was feeling more positively about my life path. I am still undergoing treatment, but I would recommend acupuncture and auricular therapy to any anxiety sufferer who has not felt relief from other doctors and prescription medications.”
